💡 Our Approach
How Mindjoy thinks about learning
Our goal is to create magical learning moments. These are moments when a child:
What is Hard Fun?
Hard Fun is when a task is enjoyable because it challenges you. We want kids to learn that struggle is not a bad thing; if things are too easy, we don't actually learn. With Mindjoy, kids develop confidence in their own capacity to solve problems, which is why sessions are facilitated by Coaches and not Teachers.
What is Project Based Learning and why is it important?
With Mindjoy, kids learn by doing. During every 60-minute class, students explore new coding concepts by completing projects that develop problem-solving, creativity and communication skills. This makes learning more fun, engaging and meaningful for the kids.
We believe that learning shouldn’t be something that happens to students, but something they actively participate in creating. All our lessons build student choice into the process and provide opportunities for reflection, feedback and revision.
What is a Mastery-based Approach?
The projects build on skills incrementally. For the kids to move forward to the next task, they first have to demonstrate an understanding of the specific concepts and skills. Coaches use Concept-Checking Questions and other methods to screen for understanding.
💻 How Mindjoy Works
🔎 FAQs
What will my kid learn?
We coach kids in real programming languages like Python. Our projects range from using code to draw, to coding text-based games. Some of the skills your kid will learn are:
Does my child need prior knowledge?
Nope! We’ve designed the learning journey to have a low barrier to entry. We will start from the very basics and work our way up together.
Are there any discounts?
We offer a sibling discount - each child after the first receives a 20% discount.
Who are the Mindjoy coaches?
All of our coaches are handpicked through a rigorous application process. Their backgrounds vary but all share a passion for learning and an insatiable curiosity! They encourage the kids to develop these attributes through their coaching approach to learning.
What if my child doesn’t like it?
Not everyone enjoys coding. That's why our payments only go off after a 1-week trial period. If you want to cancel before the beginning of the third week, we will give you a full refund. No problemo!
How does a Membership work?
A membership begins on the first week of any given month and continues monthly until, or unless, you cancel.
What device does my kid need to participate?
We recommend the use of a laptop or desktop computer. While the projects can be navigated on a tablet, it does significantly change the experience and impact the other students in the session. If you only have a tablet, we recommend using it with an external keyboard. Chrome browser is required.
How does the schedule work?
We optimise for the best possible peer-group for your kids. What that means is, we group the kids according to availability, but also age, coding ability and interests. When you sign up, we will ask for these details and group the kids accordingly. You can also update your availability each month.
